Reply with quote | #1 | Berlin needs a VA CBOC (Community Based Outreach Clinic) for Veterans. Such clinics provide primary and urgent care, not emergency care.
The criteria for establishing VA outreach clinics is that vets should not have to travel more than one hour to get to a clinic. Berlin is recorded as being 55 minutes from the one in Littleton, and 48 minutes for the one in Conway, which may not even exist anymore unless the contracted service renews its overdue contract (expired 1 October).
The measurement by travel time is based on the idea that roads can be traveled at posted speeds at any time of the day or night, or in any weather condition. If you have ever traveled either Rt 2 or Rt 16 in that area, during tourist season, leaf peeper season, or winter, you know those travel times are bogus.
We conducted a North Country Veterans Conference last Friday in Gorham, and we had 140 people in attendance at the Gorham American Legion. That is a great turnout, but we need to reach even more vets. Sad part it is one of those things where while we know an approximate number of vets in the area, we have no way to identify them or contact them for the most part. We have to count on the Veterans organizations in the area to try and get the word out, and not to demean them, but there are a lot more vets than members in those organizations.
Along with State Rep Robert Theberge of Berlin, who works for Congressman Paul Hodes, I have started a campaign to get a CBOC for the Vets of Berlin. If anybody has an idea on how to get the word out to most of the vets in the area, or to get them on our contact list to push for this and other benefits, I would greatly appreciate it.

Reply with quote | #2 | I agree with this. But what will happen when Paul's Term runs out within the year. He has already stated he has no interest in Congress. And his poll numbers are pathetic at best. So chances of him making Senate are Very slim. That will leave NH without any True ranking in the House or Senate. What are the chances of this actually happening with no ranking Senator or Congressman? Hodes is out and Shea Porter well Thank god she is gone after elections. This woman makes a liberal cower in fear she is such a friut cake. As for who will replace Hodes it is up in the air. But senate I don't see him winning either. Neither have strong support in the southern end of the state and the north country does not turn out enough votes to get thim in. If the north country wants anything done they will have to get behind a strong Canidate and honestly I don't see any Dems in NH that can win. Up north that is the base vote do to all the Union power that brainwashed the folks in Berlin. So if anything they will need to decide support People that will support them and hope they Can pull it off or Vote as told to for years without looking at canidates. I for one Hope they vote on Issues and not Paries But as all that Stimulis money that went to the North Country to Buy votes I just don't see this. |

Reply with quote | #3 | to start a fire you gather the kindling and start stacking the wood. Hodes is what we have to work with right now, and if he starts the fire, it will take the rest of us to keep it burning.
I'm a Vietnam Vet, for over 35 years I have been waiting for the next guy to come along and fix the problems, and some say "Wait until we get one of our guys in there!" - I was a sucker for that line too long. Screw that, we'll be dead before our brothers and sisters get anything. Hodes and his staff are willing to fight for us now, so I will support them and carry it over to the next one if they don't complete the mission.

Reply with quote | #4 | This is true that would be a very much needed feather in his cap if he could pull it off. |

Reply with quote | #5 | Its not like I am just going to dump this matter in his lap and wait for results (been there, done that, nothing), I will be mustering an army to push the issue along.
As for CSP, I have given her every chance and my patience is running thin. I bent over backwards for her more than any politician ever. It was dumb for her to outright lie to me, especially in front of a group of veteran witnesses on the POW/MIA issue. (For the record, my foster brother Bobby is MIA from Vietnam).
